HISTORY

The Lincoln Jewish Federation Web site is just getting started, so what follows is merely a taste of what this page will contain:

In 1919, according to the American Jewish Year Book 5680 September 25, 1919 to Sept. 12, 1920, the Jewish population of Lincoln was 1,000.

Tifereth Israel Synagogue was dedicated on May 25, 1913, and served the Orthodox Jewish congregation until the late 1950s when a new synagogue was built.[September 2005]

?         B'nai Jehuda: also known as "Mount Carmel Cemetery."

In 1886, Samuel and Rachel Polowsky bought property in Lincoln's Belmont section on North 14th St., which they then sold to the Chevra B'nai Jehuda Cemetery Association. This serves Lincoln's Orthodox and Conservative Jews.

?         Mount Lebanon:

Wyuka Cemetery: In 1890, Lincoln's Bnai Jeshurun Congregation (Reform) began using a section of this cemetery.
